The story so far …
At the age of 7 years old I was given my first computer (a Sinclair ZX81) and got hooked on programming small, simple, basic games. There was something exciting about typing in a bunch of characters and then, if everything was put in correctly, the computer gave me a game to play. I found that, by tweaking programmes that were already available, I could tailor-make my games to include my name and change the graphics to my desire.
When I left school and college I continued to work with computers in Support, Engineering, and graphic design. When the internet was born I knew it was going to be a world changer. So, after having two children, I took an Open University course in Web Design and then started Underbrella Websites.
Ten busy years later, using a combination of the WordPress content management system, the Adobe suite of software, HTML, CSS and PHP I am able to re-kindle those early programming skills and create Google and Bing-friendly websites to help small businesses.
What’s with the ‘Underbrella’ name??
When my son was a toddler he referred to Umbrellas as ‘Underbrellas’ and I liked it – why shouldn’t they be called Underbrellas? You keep everything from the rain by being underneath.
When you need a new website it’s not just a case of saying ‘Give me new website’ – there’s hosting, e-mailing, branding, SEO and design elements that all need to be addressed. Underbrella covers all of those things and, rather than leave you out in the rain, we have all of the website complications covered.
Who am I?
